Full Dragon Flag - The complete guide

The full dragon flag is the goal of the progression - the entire body held in one unbroken, straight line from shoulders to toes, supported only by the shoulders' contact with the surface. Made famous by Bruce Lee.

    How to perform it

    1. 1Lie on your back and take a solid grip behind your head
    2. 2Lift your entire body up with your legs fully extended and together
    3. 3Hold one unbroken line from shoulders to toes without breaking at the hip
    4. 4Maintain tension in the core and glutes throughout the movement
    5. 5Lower yourself slowly and under control without letting the legs drop

    Common mistakes

⚠️ Attempting the full version without a solid straddle foundation
⚠️ Breaking at the hip instead of holding one straight line
⚠️ Losing control in the eccentric phase and letting the body drop

Progression - the path to mastering it

    1. Straddle dragon flag 15+ seconds
    2. Half-straddle dragon flag
    3. Full dragon flag hold 3-5 seconds
    4. Full dragon flag hold 10+ seconds
    5. Dynamic dragon flag reps

    FAQ

How long does it take to go from straddle to full?

Typically an extra 2-4 months of training for most people, depending on core strength and how solid the straddle version already is.

Should I do it static or dynamic?

Both - static holds build the foundation, while dynamic reps (lowering and raising) are harder and typically come later in the progression.
